While we are waiting for the world to open up, how do we make the most of this time? How will we show up for ourselves in the New Year 2021? How will we change? How will we grow? How will we meet the moment, this moment, our moment, in 2021?
What if we make this a year of learning? What if we took some time to think about what we’ve always wanted to learn, but never found the time to pursue?
What if in 2021, we decided to find the time? What if this year we made a point of learning something new?
What have you always wanted to learn? Is there a class you’d like to take? A course of study that you’ve always wanted to pursue? A skill you always wished to learn, or a latent talent you wish to uncover?
Could this be the year you learn to be a speed reader?
A better writer?
Or social media maven?
Perhaps this new year may be a good time to learn more about how to be become more resilient. Resilience is the capacity to prepare for, recover from, and adapt in the face of stress, challenge or adversity. Think of resilience as the amount of energy you have stored in your “inner battery.” This energy is available to use physically, mentally, and emotionally. When you have high resilience, you can stay composed and not overreact, especially when dealing with challenging people or situations.
Here are a few of my favorite videos on YouTube with tips for resilience:
If you’d like to invest more seriously in learning the tools and techniques of resilience, The Center for Leadership Training offers two on-line programs in resilience: one for individuals and one for organizations.
If you’d like to learn more about modern and contemporary art, sign up for MoMA’s free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Coursera. You’ll hear directly from artists and designers, look closely at works in their collection and exhibitions, and join a global community of learners.
Speaking of Coursera, they have also teamed up with Disney and Pixar to present classes designed to fuel your passions and imagination. Classes range from DIY musician to graphic design to animation.
Udemy also offers over 15,000 free courses in subjects from academics to arts, health, and wellness:
If you think you should be dancing in the New Year, Debbie Allan Dance Academy (DADA), offers ballet, hip hop, modern and musical theatre classes for students age 3 and up. Their global classes are offered to students at any age from anywhere.
Want to learn a new language in 2021? The Duolingo language-learning website and mobile app offer free language education for the world. With over 300 million registered users worldwide, their freemium model offers 98 different languages without charge and premium service for a fee.
Maybe it’s time to refresh your brand in the new year to ensure your message is meeting the moment. Maybe you need updated positioning and messaging, a new website, or a more cohesive and consistent social media presence.
I’m hoping I can be a resource for more people in 2021 to help them elevate their brand and their work. Feel free to send me an email via my contact page.
Happy New Year to all!
