Here's Why You Need to Stop Feeling Guilty About Napping l The Friday 3: July 30, 2021
Can you believe it is already the end of July?! Summer is flying by. Here's what's inspiring me this week.
1) What I'm Learning About...
The power of napping.
Who knew? Napping is a fast way to provide a quick memory boost. Naps can recharge your brain’s batteries and improve your memory’s recall and information retention.
Napping also improves your mood. When we don’t get enough sleep we can become anxious, irritable, depressed, overwhelmed, and easily distracted. Napping washes your brain in serotonin, reversing those side effects and enhancing your overall sense of well-being.
And surprise! Napping can also enhance your creativity. The mind loves a nap and taking a nap can improve your sensory perception as effectively as a night of sleep. Napping improves your creativity by allowing the brain’s right hemisphere to engage in certain key “housecleaning” tasks, such as memory consolidation.
2) What I'm Listening To...
Alex Gabor's podcast "Call Her Daddy."
Podcaster, Alex Cooper, scored a $20 million deal for bringing her podcast exclusively to Spotify. Her raw and raunchy interviewing style is not for everyone, but you can get a sense of her provocative Q&A’s by listening to her recent interview with Chelsea Handler.
3) What I'm Curious About...
The word "metaverse."
So I started looking it up. Here’s what I found so far…
The metaverse is a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the Internet.
Ok, wow what the heck does that mean? Let's break it down.
The word "metaverse" is made up of the prefix "meta" (meaning beyond) and the stem "verse" (a backformation from "universe"); the term is typically used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe.
More recently Mark Zuckerberg laid out his vision to transform Facebook from a social media network into a "metaverse company" in the next five years. He believes the metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet, and creating this product group is the next step in Facebook's journey. He describes it as "an embodied internet where instead of just viewing content, you are in it." Facebook has invested heavily in virtual reality, spending $2 billion on acquiring Oculus, which develops its VR products and continues spending billions each year in R&D.
