Here's Why You Should Write a Book l The Friday 3: November 5, 2021

Happy Friday!

Here's what I've been up to this week.

1) I'm learning about...

the big benefits of writing a book.

One thing I love about teaching a workshop with industry friends is that I always learn something too. Last week in our “Foundations of Branding Workshop," Karen Kelly shared three reasons why someone should write a book:

1. It’s a calling card for your business

2. It’s another way to extend and build our brand

3. It’s also a way to share a message that stands the test to time

To start thinking about the book you’d like to write, here are the questions Karen suggests that you contemplate:

1. Why do you want to write a book?

2. What are the 5 to 7 things you’d like the reader to come away with?

3. Why are you uniquely qualified to write it?

You can find out more about Karen Kelly’s work here.

2) I'm studying...

how we can get control of our emotions from Chris Conley, author of the book “Emotional Equations: Simple Truths for Creating a Healthy + Happy Life.”

Conley says emotions take about 90 seconds, but we often think about them for 90 minutes or more.

Here are a few of my favorite emotional equations, so you can see how it works:

Joy = Love – Fear

Anxiety = Uncertainty x Powerlessness

Curiosity = Wonder + Awe

Innovation = Creativity - Cynicism

You can watch an animated video on emotional equations here.

Or dive in deeper with Conley’s book here.

3) I'm sharing...

three of my favorite quotes from psychotherapist, relationship expert and author, Esther Perel.

“When we listen deeply to the experiences of other people, we often find ourselves standing in front of our own mirror.”

“We all straddle two fundamental human needs; the need for security, and the need for adventure.”

“It is the quality of our relationships that will determine the quality of our lives.”

You can listen both of Ester Perel’s podcasts here.

Have a great weekend!

With love,

Marta
